Who are we ?

European Milk Recording (EMR) is a European Economic Interest Group (EEIG) created in 2015, following the Interreg NWE project OptiMIR.

During this project, the partners wanted to share spectral data to produce common FT-MIR prediction models, but faced the problem that these spectral data were not harmonized between partners. Indeed, the spectral data came from different laboratories, which used different brands of spectrometers and different analysis models. Data sharing was therefore not possible as such, without considering a first step of standardisation of the spectral data.

The Walloon Agricultural Research Centre (CRA-W) developed a method of standardisation thanks to the expertise of Clément Grelet and other scientific collaborators. At the end of the OptiMIR project, the partners decided to create the EMR group to spread this new standardisation solution amongst members and beyond.

Originally, the standardisation service was only available for our members, we then started to have new clients, and finally, in 2019, we launched our prediction webservice. This method now allows anyone to access high quality spectral predictions for management or breeding purposes.

When we started in 2015, the EMR group counted 11 members. In 2016, LKV Austria joined us and in 2019, LKV SH became a member. We are of course always open to new collaborations and any milk recording organisation that would like to join us is welcome to do so.

Thanks to our standardisation method, a huge transnational database could be created and is being used to develop new tools to improve the management of farms.
